IVIG Therapy For Primary Immune Deficiency Disease

There are a number of specific medical therapies that can help people diagnosed with primary immunodeficiencies (PI) lead healthier lives. One of the most common therapies is intravenous immunoglobulin, or IVIG.

Many people with PI suffer from chronic infections because their bodies lack certain kinds of antibodies. These important cells, also called immunoglobulins, help the body destroy germs that cause infections. IVIG temporarily replaces the immunoglobulins, or antibodies, that some PI patients are missing.
